Frequently Asked Questions
When should I consider getting a special bra?
We recommend that you purchase a bra before having a fitting for your breast form. The better the fitting bra you have on, the easier it is to fit the right breast form.
However, do not go too soon after your surgery, you may be feeling too uncomfortable and it might be tricky to find the perfect fit if you’re still a little swollen.
How many bras should I buy?
We suggest you only buy one or two to start with. Your size and shape may well change quite a lot in the first few months after surgery. We think it’s better to wait until you are settled into your size before spending money on lots of lingerie.
Is there anything I should take to my bra fitting appointment?
Wear the best fitting bra you have. Also, wear or take a tight fitting light coloured top. (This should be fairly easy to take on and off). This will help you see how the fit and profile of the bra looks over your clothes.
How long will my breast form last?
The NHS should replace your breast form when it is worn out or damaged. They should last up to 3 years, so long as you look after it and follow the care instructions.
Do I need to buy a new bra?
If the bras you have are of a shape that will fit and cover your breast form, and are comfortable, you can continue to wear them.
For extra support and comfort, a pocket can be sewn into them.
Balconette and plunge bras are often not ideal as they will not hold the breast form securely and the breast form will be larger than the cup of the bra.
What bra should I take to the hospital when I have my surgery?
You may want to wear something when you leave hospital, it is better to try and wear something very light. A sleep bra is a great idea or a pocketed vest top.
